Leopold lets Judge, not jury decide his fate

This morning County Executive Leopold decided to waive his right to a jury trial and to instead let a Retired Judge decide his fate.  This comes after Attorneys for the State and Leopold’s defense attorneys spent Wednesday questioning and dismissing prospective jurors.

Leopold has been charged with using AA police officers assigned to his security detail for personal and political gain.  Some allegations are that police were used to drive the County Executive to parking lots to participate in sexual encounters and that he used police resources to gather information for his “enemies list”.

Too many of our elected officials have been caught doing something either illegal or immoral, they are intelligent enough to know what they were doing was wrong. Leopold knows he’s guilty and a jury would most likely agree. I think he would rather risk the judge, who most likely is someone he knows or paid off. We have no confidence in our elected officals any more there is too much corruption and it has to stop. I hope that the judge decides his fate fairly and honestly!!

How do you “Know” he is guilty? Were you there? Have you seen all of the evidence from both the Prosecution and the Defense? Have you ever heard of innocent until proven guilty? I am not saying he is innocent and I am not saying he is guilty, but I am saying I agree with his decision to have a judge preside over his trial instead of a jury…The reasoning? It is because of people like you and the media that have already tried him and found him guilty BEFORE his trial! As a member of a jury you have to be able to look at all of the evidence presented from both sides without prejudice and make your decision based soley on the evidence presented in court, not on your belief, hatred, bias, media representation or sensationalism PRIOR to the trial. And if you put that type of statement out there that you did above, by suggesting that he has paid off a judge you may open Yourself up to a civil suit, specifically if he is found innocent ot by the presiding judge. Watch what you say it just may come back to bite you.

I agree with you Cynthia, but since it’s a retired judge, Leopold probably knows him and already has him in his back pocket.

LG, Cynthia Sheckells NEVER said SHE knew he was guilty. She said LEOPOLD knows he is! YOU need to READ before you attempt to rebut someone else’s comment. Also, jurors are SCREENED–to remove biased potential jurors. I don’t know Cynthia any more than I know you, so don’t think I’m sticking up for her because she’s a friend or something. I just felt that your erroneous attack on her comment needed to be put in it’s place. READ BEFORE YOU WRITE!
