Spring is here. That means yard work, sports and this year – early voting! If you are concerned about taxes, gun laws, public health, medical marijuana, cyber crime, animal rights or any of the other hundreds of issues addressed by elected officials, now is the time to let your voice be heard. The Board of Elections is trying to give you every chance to cast your ballot. Early voting began on March 24th.
You have several days to choose from as well as multiple locations. Early voting started on Saturday, March 24th. This week, centers will be open 10am to 8pm today, Monday, March 26th through Thursday, March 29th, 2012. Anyone who is in line at 8 pm will be allowed to vote. All early voting centers are accessible for voters with disabilities.
If you vote during early voting it is the same as voting on Election Day. When you arrive at a voting center, you will check in to vote and vote your ballot using the touch screen voting system. This system allows you to touch the screen to make, change, and review selections and cast a ballot.
Simple instructions will be available at the early voting centers. There are also election judges on hand to answer your questions or provide assistance, if needed.
If you choose not to take advantage of early voting, you can still vote at your assigned polling place on Election Day, April 3rd. If you do not know where your polling place is, you can find that information as well as a sample ballot, on the Board of Elections web site, https://www.mdelections.umd.edu/. On Election Day, polling places will be open continuously from 7 am until 8 pm. Again, anyone who is in line at 8 pm will be allowed to vote. If you are unable to vote during early voting or on Election Day, you may vote by absentee ballot. For information about absentee voting, visit www.aacounty.org/elections.
